UNIQUE IDENTIFIER – UNDERSTANDING CUSTOMER IDs
In Bunce, every customer is assigned a unique identifier, known as the Customer ID. This ensures that each customer record remains distinct, even if certain attributes like email addresses are shared.
What is the Unique Identifier?
The Customer ID is the core identifier used to uniquely track and reference individual customer records across the Bunce platform.
Two Types of Customer IDs
System-Generated Customer ID
When a customer is uploaded without an existing customer ID, Bunce automatically generates one.
This happens by default when uploading contacts via CSV or integration without a customer ID field.
Uploaded Customer ID
If you upload a customer with a predefined customer ID in your file or system, Bunce will use that value.
Rules & Behavior
- Multiple customers can share the same email address.
- No two customers can have the same Customer ID.
The Customer ID is the true unique identifier, not email.
Example Scenario
Let’s say you upload the following:
Customer ID |
|
rabi@bunce.so | (none) |
rabi@bunce.so | (none) |
rabi@bunce.so | CUST-RABI-001 |
- The first two records will be assigned different system-generated Customer IDs, even though they have the same email.
- The third record will retain the uploaded Customer ID (CUST-RABI-001).
If you later upload another contact with rabi@bunce.so and no customer ID, Bunce will create a new customer with a new ID.
Why This Matters
- This approach supports businesses that may have multiple users under the same email (e.g., shared inboxes, parent-child relationships).
Ensures accurate customer tracking for automation, analytics, and engagement history.
